Our expectations really can get in the way of receiving what God gives us with gratitude and wanting what we have rather than yearning for what we want. Whether we are aware of it or not, each of us has a mental map that we’ve carried since childhood, and we expect our lives to follow that map. As it turns out, following Jesus and accepting the adventures God has for us means going off those maps and learning to love life on life’s terms. The Bible teaches us how to supplant expectation with hope to navigate life’s pathway with the new maps God gives us and find joy on the journey.
